Born in Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Streit began his career in karting – he was two-time Brazilian champion, five-time Rio de Janeiro champion, runner-up at Pan American, among others. He started in single seaters in 2001, winning the Formula Chevrolet tittle in Brazil. At the same year, he also won the Italian Formula Renault Winter Championship.

At the following seasons, he raced in the European Formula Renault 2.0, Italian Formula Renault 2.0 and in the F-3 Euroseries. In 2003, he joined the Toyota TDA young driver program. Streit was part of the program for two years, until he moved to the Japanese F-3 - where he raced for a subsidized team by Toyota for four years.

Streit remained in Japan for four seasons and competed for the Japanese F-3 (runner-up in 2007), Nippon Formula and Super GT 500.

The Brazilian was one of the most valued drivers in the history of global F-3.
